BitDefender for Sendmail Milter version 1.6 is a secure content inspection solution which provides antivirus and antispam protection at the gateway level, by scanning all the inbound and outbound e-mail traffic for known and unknown malware.

Customers that opt into this service will have the latest updates "pushed" to their servers the second they become available, instead of waiting for the scheduled update, further reducing the threat presented by new viruses.

^NEWAntispam module
The BitDefender AntiSpam filter is included by default in this version, offering 3 antispam technologies: an improved heuristic filter, WhiteList/BlackList, and an URL Filter. A Bayesian training add-on will be available in a future release.

^NEWWatchdog module
The Watchdog is designed to provide failover capability in a flexible manner. If a message cannot be scanned for viruses, mail can be delivered as such or forwarded to another mail server or temporarily rejected.

The packages are self-extractive shell archives for rpm- based distributions (RedHat Enterprise Linux, SuSe Linux Enterprise Server, Fedora Core, Mandrake), Debian and Debian-based distribution and and binary tars for other Linux distributions (Slackware, Gentoo, etc). BitDefender for Linux Mail Servers is compiled and build with gcc 2.9x and gcc 3.x compilers.

^Improved AntiVirus Module
BitDefender for Sendmail Milter ensures 100% detection rate for all viruses in circulation through its powerful scanning engines from Bit Defender Professional, certified by ICSA Labs USA. To address the fake sender behavior of new viruses, infected e-mails can be dropped or rejected.

^Improved Quarantine Module
Infected or suspected files are isolated in a safe quarantine zone, preventing the infection from spreading. The quarantine zone can be analyzed at any time by the IT manager or it can be sent for analysis to the BitDefender Antivirus Lab. Administrators can view/download quarantined files, re-scan quarantined files or send them for analysis to BitDefender Labs.

^NEW Action : Forward
Scanned e-mails can be forwarded to another mail server. Either all messages, only the infected or only the clean ones can be sent.

Mail headers/disclaimers
The product will append customizable informational headers and disclaimers about its activity (scanned/cleaned/suspect message) to e-mail headers

WBL (White List / Blacklist) support
This quite simply means that the admin can set a list of trusted and untrusted addresses from which to respectively ?always accept? or ?always reject? mail.

URL Filter
Most of the spam messages contain links to various web locations (which contain more advertising and the possibility to buy things, usually). BitDefender has a database which contains links to these kinds of sites. Every time you perform an update new links will be added to the URL filter; this will help increase the effectiveness of your AntiSpam engine.

Heuristic analysis technology.
The heuristic filter performs set of tests on all the message components, (i.e. not only the header but also the message body in either HTML or text format), looking for words, phrases, links or other characteristics of spam.

^Improved Reports and Statistics
The Logger module generates automatic reports regarding the number of the scanned, disinfected, deleted, infected or filtered messages. BitDefender can send customizable e-mail notifications about infected messages to the sender and/or the receiver of the e-mail, as well as to the administrator and postmaster.
